The Cruzmaltino' mantle for the 2021 season alludes to the letter written 97 years ago by José Augusto Prestes, Vasco's president, refusing to submit to the condition of not allowing blacks and people of humble origin, as workers, to enter football. This landmark became known as "Historical Response" and, to this day, it is considered a symbol in the fight against racial and social discrimination.
