Joinville Esporte Clube is a club of Joinville, a city in the northeastern brazilian state of Santa Catarina, also known by its acronym, JEC. In soccer, it is considered by the Santa Catarina press as one of five major state clubs, along with Avaí, Chapecoense, Criciúma and Figueirense. Its biggest rival is the Criciúma, who stars in the Clássico do Interior (or Clássico Norte-Sul), a regional rivalry that intensified from the 1970s, but also has a strong rivalry with the teams of Avaí, Figueirense and Chapecoense.
